Phase 3a) Main review process

← Phase 3) | Phase 3b) →

Each of the two reviewers assigned to a given media/scientific article set will read the scientific article and media article(s). They will then go through and fill out the review tool for this study. Reviewers will be allowed to revise their own forms until they submit their review to the study administrators.

The reviewers have the option of recusing themselves from this study if they believe they are insufficiently equipped to give unbiased, fair, and thorough review of the assigned scientific and media article(s). They must recuse themselves from reviewing for any of the following reasons: professional/personal relationship with the main study authors, any financial conflict of interest, any social conflict of interest, lack of sufficient expertise in the methods used in the scientific articles, sufficient lack of content area knowledge, or any other perceived influence on their ability to review the assigned articles.

If a reviewer chooses to recuse him/herself, another reviewer will be assigned to take his/her place, first randomly selecting among those who have recused themselves from reviewing a different study, and then among those who have additional capacity to review another article within study timelines. If the randomly selected replacement reviewer is already reviewing that article set, a different reviewer will be chosen.
